    The Effective Headteacher Toolkit 2026-27

    The Effective Headteacher Toolkit (formerly 5 Fundamentals of Effective School Leadership) is a well-established LA approach to enhancing and refining the skills and effectiveness of experienced headteachers. The training has, to date, been attended by over 100 headteachers from across Hampshire and beyond.  

    This series of workshops for experienced headteachers looks at five fundamental aspects of successful school leadership. The sessions explore how to be a highly effective headteacher in a period of competing pressures on your time and resources.

    Embedding Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) within High Quality Inclusive Teaching - 26-27 Cohort 1

    This programme aims to ensure best practice of high-quality inclusive teaching in all classrooms, all of the time. Exploration of the published HIAS guidance: Ordinarily available provision and special educational needs and disabilities support will be a key thread of this programme as we explore approaches to implementation across different settings. 

    Sessions will provide opportunities to reflect on current practice, identifying strengths and next steps for your school to ensure effective implementation of high-quality inclusive teaching and ordinarily available provision. Throughout the programme, there will be opportunities to hear from experts from across educational services in Hampshire related to the specific needs of your school. 

    The course price entitles each school to bring up to two delegates to the sessions. The aim is that the leader of teaching and learning, who has strategic oversight, attends with a classroom teacher to facilitate an open dialogue about the school’s specific context and to enable change at both classroom and whole school level.

    Developing an Irresistible Curriculum

    Creating a culture of inclusion through effective curriculum design. This course will offer participants the opportunity to reflect upon and develop the curriculum offer within their own school, with the aim of making it truly irresistible.   

    We will consider what makes an irresistible curriculum and what are the core principles which need to be in place to make this happen. What are they? Are they really in place? How do we know?   

    Leaders will have time to think strategically about ‘what’s next’ and ‘why’ for their own settings and learn from other settings and their approaches.

    Keyword Search: Safeguarding Network

    Primary Safeguarding Networks 2026-27

    This network focuses on the practical leadership and oversight of safeguarding and child protection in schools.  

    The district network is facilitated by the local LLPR with some input from Cindy Pritchard (HIAS Lead Safeguarding Adviser). 

    These sessions are aimed at senior leaders and are designed to enable effective oversight of safeguarding. Each session focuses on a different aspect of the leadership of safeguarding. There will also be opportunities for participants to discuss local contextual safeguarding issues, problem solve and share best practice.   

    Please note, this network is the continuation of existing networks that have been running in Fareham and Gosport and Havant and East Hants but is now offered across the county at a district level. Sessions run concurrently across other districts, meaning attendees can attend alternative group sessions should dates clash.  

    Important: This network does not replace statutory DSL training and is separate to any existing DSL networks.

    Ofsted Briefing - Renewed Education Inspection Framework 2025

    These termly briefings aim to deepen the knowledge and understanding of headteachers and chairs of governors in respect of the current Ofsted inspection framework. The sessions are particularly targeted at schools who are likely to be inspected within the next 6 months. 

    There will be opportunities to review information relating to the latest national and local inspection trends and patterns and consider implications for their own school. Additional input will be provided by headteachers of schools that have been recently inspected under the current framework (2025) and members of the Primary Phase Inspector team who support schools through the process.  

    A senior leader and chair of governors are invited to attend but do not need to book a place.  Headteachers who have booked a place will receive the course details, which they should share.

    Hampshire Primary Curriculum Conference 2026

    A full-day conference offering the opportunity to explore and share effective approaches to curriculum design, drawing on practice from across Hampshire and beyond. 

    The programme combines a mix of morning presentations with afternoon workshop sessions, providing both strategic insight and practical application. Delegates will be able to select up to two workshop sessions during the afternoon.  

    This year’s keynote speaker is Emma Turner, who has over 28 years’ experience in primary education, including roles in teaching, headship and system leadership across multi-academy trusts. Now an independent consultant working nationally and internationally, Emma is the author of six bestselling books on curriculum, cognitive science and leadership, and co-host of the “Mind the Gap” podcast with Tom Sherrington. She is a highly regarded speaker on curriculum design, research-informed practice and staff development. 

    Emma will also lead an afternoon workshop session, with a focus on curriculum planning in mixed-age classes offering a further opportunity to engage with her work in more depth.
