Sign up today to Prevent Training for DSLs and Other Staff Leading Training in Schools 25-26 – 27 November 2025

by Hannah Richardson -

The below quote from the Prevent Duty Guidance: Prevent duty guidance: Guidance for specified authorities in England and Wales (publishing.service.gov.uk) identifies the following:

The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) or Prevent lead in the setting should receive more in-depth training, including on extremist and terrorist ideologies, how to make referrals and how to work with Channel panels. It is recommended that this training is updated at least every two years, enabling the lead to support other staff on Prevent matters and update them on relevant issues”.

Therefore, this course will provide staff who are delivering Prevent training with the knowledge and resources to enable them to facilitate training to all staff in their schools.

Join us for the Headteacher Wellbeing Seminar 2025 – 28 November 2025

by Hannah Richardson -

Please note: this session is a repeat of the ones held in February 2025 so is only open to schools that did not attend the first time around. We are planning a further wellbeing event early in 2026, building on from these, with new content and resources.

Hampshire Improvement and Advisory Service (HIAS) is pleased to continue its focus on supporting school leaders in strengthening their wellbeing by holding a re-run of the Wellbeing seminar offered to schools in February 2025.

Hazel Anderson-Turner will be returning to deliver this half day session for a second time, aimed at supporting leaders to develop skills and have practical strategies to be supported in staying well whilst managing challenging contexts.

Hazel will focus on helping delegates build psychological flexibility, enabling us to think better, make better choices and to navigate our emotions in a healthier way, supporting us to consciously respond to challenges rather than instinctively react.

Delivered by the Secondary HIAS adviser, this in-depth programme supports the future senior leaders in our schools. This multi session course is aimed at established middle leaders who are thinking about the next steps in their career path. It would also be appropriate for newly appointed assistant headteachers or lead practitioners. With many schools now ‘growing their own’ future leaders, this programme will support with a focus on ensuring colleagues understand the wide remit of a senior leader and give them inspiration, challenge and support to fulfil that role effectively. This will ensure governors continue to be able to appoint experienced leaders ready to tackle the broad challenges facing senior leadership teams today.
