We are hosting a series of workshops that relate to issues of ‘educational engagement’; an umbrella term that we are using to include issues such as attendance, exclusions, use of reduced hours provision (RHP), alternative provision (AP) and elective home education (EHE).

The indicators across these ‘educational engagement’ areas suggest that they are either ‘stuck’ or becoming more challenging than four years ago. Perhaps this a good example of where the whole might indeed be more effective than the sum of its individual parts.

We hope is that we can consider some of the following during workshops:

  • Is there a shared understanding across ‘education’ on the nature and scale of this issue?
  • Are there particular issues either causing or maintaining this?
  • Is there already innovative practice making a difference addressing this locally? What and where is it? Could and should we be doing more of this?
  • Are there new and different ideas and ways of working  that might allow us to do things differently, leading to small steps of progress in this area?
  • Who and how can we work together to respond to these challenges?
  • How could we best use our resources to make the most impact in these areas?
  • Are there any quick wins?

Following the workshops, our aim is to use the insights gained from the workshops to create a comprehensive delivery plan that encompasses various strands. This plan will provide us with a clear direction to work towards collectively.
