HIAS offers a comprehensive support programme
for new headteachers, comprising:
New headteachers familiarisation dayA full day programme to introduce you to headship in Hampshire. The morning features presentations by senior leaders, including the Assistant Director, Education and Inclusion Safeguarding, Inclusion and Tackling Educational Disadvantage and Governance leads. In the afternoon, the HIAS school improvement managers will commence the programme of professional development for new headteachers, delivering sessions on leadership and wellbeing. The day also includes opportunities to network and collaborate with other colleagues.
Dates: 1 October 2025, 4 February 2026, or 1 May 2026 in the Winchester/Eastleigh area.
New headteacher webinar programme
To support the professional development programme, we offer a comprehensive series of thirteen webinars over the academic year. These twilight sessions provide an overview of the key Hampshire services accessible to schools, as well as the subject support available from our experienced team of advisers.
Cost: Sub £250 / SLA £145 / Full £300
Price include the familiarisation day and webinar programme.
New Headteachers Conference
A two-day conference for new primary headteachers, held in the Spring term. The conference inputs and activities will focus on early headship rather than purely new headship; it is likely that many delegates will have been in post for some months. There will be opportunities for delegates to reflect and strategically plan away from their schools as well as meeting key contacts within the Education and Inclusion team.
