    Zero tolerance statement

Hampshire County Council is committed to ensuring that all people in Hampshire enjoy being part of strong, inclusive communities, and that it continues to be an inclusive employer with a diverse workforce.

The County Council will support the aims of the Equality Duty by seeking to:-

    • ensure that services are inclusive and diverse, proactively increasing understanding between and within communities
    • attract and retain a diverse workforce, with equal opportunities for career progression
    • ensure zero tolerance of harassment, discrimination, bullying and abuse, dealing effectively with incidents when they occur

The County Council has policies and guidance to support its Zero Tolerance approach towards any form of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or abuse towards our staff. This includes the Unacceptable Actions by Customers Policy that outlines the County Council’s approach to implementing a customer contact restriction, should this be necessary to protect our workforce.

Schools differ in that they have governing bodies or boards of trustees that are responsible for all staff matters and have a legal responsibility as the employer of staff and must comply with employment and health and safety legislation. This includes ensuring that staff are treated fairly, have a safe working environment, and are provided with the necessary training and support.

Hampshire County Council however supports governing bodies in adopting its zero-tolerance statement and Unacceptable Actions by Customers policy as a way of clarifying the importance of supporting staff and ensuring that a governing body takes action when harassment, discrimination and abuse takes place.

The following documentation can be downloaded and displayed to demonstrate the governing bodies expectations and commitment to its staff.
